MK is Marita Kahler. As an avid animal lover, I began painting my own animals (Poco the golden lab and Riley the goldendoodle) many years ago. It wasn’t long before MK Pet Portraits was born! I live just outside Atlanta, GA, with my husband Bill and our dog-baby Ranger, a lab/hound rescue.
From the June 2025 Atlanta Magazine “Pet Issue” – Where to Take Your Pet article: As a kid in Pittsburgh (PA), budding artist Marita Kahler learned about brushes and color from her dad, a steel mill worker and oil painting hobbyist. Years later, she says, she “kinda forgot about art”. That is, until her golden lab Poco passed away. That’s when she decided to honor him by painting his image. Since then, she’s created dozens of stunning oil portraits for other pet owners. Kahler, who lives in Smyrna (GA), says, “My goal is always to have the person say, “That’s my Dog”!
